The lack of suitable premises for primary schools in Lithuania, and at the same time in Kaunas, has been felt since the beginning of independence. But it was only in the early 1930s that more stylistically and functionally modern buildings of this type began to be built.

One of the first elementary school buildings with a modernist exterior in Kaunas was designed for Jewish children in 1930 by engineer Antanas Jokimas. He at that time had visited Sweden to familiarize himself with the modern design of buildings for this purpose. Therefore, the design of this building may have been influenced by the foreign experience.

In the architecture of the three-story building, the influence of modernism is evident - strict, ascetic forms prevail, the undecorated asymmetric facade is divided by wide horizontal windows (to let as much sunlight into the premises as possible) and narrow horizontal lines. This makes the building look simple, but at the same time functional. Inside, the classrooms had to accommodate about 400 students. In addition, to ensure functionality, the building housed not only classrooms, but also a hall, a dining room, rooms for handicrafts, and a doctor's room. Also, the building was equipped with hot and cold water and other amenities necessary for a modern institution. At that time, it was one of the most modern buildings of such type, not only in Kaunas, but also in the whole of Lithuania.
