The client of the Scheriber House was a wealthy furniture manufacturer, Chaim Schreiber, who commissioned the young James Gowan the project with an almost unlimited budget, basically asking for a large space dining-room and a lot of natural materials. It is obvious that Gowan was willing to develop workers and middle-class homes and was fond of Victorian standards and construction details. It is possible that this project was a natural laboratory to test ideas. The house is planned horizontally, with the service and garage entrance from street located in the basement, the living rooms on the ground floor, the master bedroom on the first floor, and bedrooms and study in the second.
