The owner of the building in Kęstučio 47a is Stasys Dirgirys, who was an economist, banker and political figure of the time. After Lithuania’s independence, in 1920-1922, he was a representative of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party in the Parliament and worked in the Economic Commission. He was one of the founders of the insurance company Lietuva and the first chairman of its board. Furthermore, he was an active statesman and creator, one of the law’s authors on the introduction of the litas, and a founder and lecturer at the University of Lithuania’s predecessor, the Higher Courses. Stasys Digrys did not neglect his social activities while working that intense and he belonged to various societies, such as the Economic Studies Society, the Society for the Dissemination of Kaunas Commercial Sciences, the Society of Kaunas Homeowners, and the Society for Trade Machines and Parts.

In 1931, he was part of the commission regarding the construction of this specific building on Kestucio street, and later on, he became its owner. The building was designed by Feliksas Vizbaras, one of the most influential architects of interwar Lithuania, and his designs can be found all around Kaunas.

The building has four stories which include a ground floor and three upper floors. On the ground floor, there are two shops and a passageway which connects the front garden with the back. Even though the building is in a courtyard, it has fascinating front and back façades. The front façade consists of three main axes: the central one and the side ones, which are gradually forward from the central axis and have a curved transition. In the middle of the central axis, there are two small balconies on each floor, with horizontal metal railings. At the back façade, the composition is the opposite. While the central axis is forward, the side axis is behind it. Furthermore, at the back façade, the balconies are at the side axis and are all the side axis’ long. There are six balconies on each façade.

On each floor, there are two apartments which can be reached by the front door, through the main staircase. There is a back door as well, which opens to the second staircase. In the middle of the main staircase, there is a lift. However, today the box of the lift does not exist, but its structure is still there.Today, the building is still used as a residential apartment with shops on its ground floor.
